२०७९ साल जेठ ३० गते द लेप्रोसी मिसन नेपाल (The Leprosy Mission Nepal) को सहयोगमा पोखरिया क्षेत्रमा कुष्ठरोग (लेप्रोसी) पहिचान तथा स्क्रिनिङ स्वास्थ्य शिविर सफलतापूर्वक सम्पन्न गरिएको थियो। कार्यक्रमको मुख्य उद्देश्य समुदायमा रहेका सम्भावित कुष्ठरोगका बिरामीहरूको समयमै पहिचान, उपचारमा पहुँच सुनिश्चित गर्नु तथा कुष्ठरोगसम्बन्धी जनचेतना अभिवृद्धि गर्नु रहेको थियो।

उक्त स्वास्थ्य शिविरमा कुल ११७ जना सेवाग्राहीको स्वास्थ्य परीक्षण गरिएको थियो। सहभागीहरूको छालाको परीक्षण, स्नायु सम्बन्धी प्रारम्भिक मूल्याङ्कन तथा कुष्ठरोगका लक्षणहरूको विस्तृत स्क्रिनिङ गरिएको थियो।

स्क्रिनिङका क्रममा ५ जना नयाँ कुष्ठरोगका बिरामीहरू पहिचान भएका थिए। पहिचान भएका बिरामीहरूलाई आवश्यक स्वास्थ्य परामर्श प्रदान गर्नुका साथै बहुऔषधि उपचार (MDT) सुरु गर्न तथा नियमित अनुगमनका लागि सम्बन्धित स्वास्थ्य संस्थामा सिफारिस गरिएको थियो।

शिविरका क्रममा कुष्ठरोगका प्रारम्भिक लक्षण, समयमै उपचारको महत्त्व, रोग पूर्ण रूपमा निको हुने तथ्य तथा कुष्ठरोगसँग सम्बन्धित सामाजिक भ्रम, डर र विभेद अन्त्य गर्न स्वास्थ्य शिक्षा तथा जनचेतनामूलक कार्यक्रम पनि सञ्चालन गरिएको थियो।

द लेप्रोसी मिसन नेपालको सहयोग तथा स्थानीय स्वास्थ्यकर्मीहरूको सक्रिय सहभागितामा सम्पन्न यस कार्यक्रमले समुदायमा कुष्ठरोगको शीघ्र पहिचान, समयमै उपचार र अपाङ्गता रोकथाममा महत्त्वपूर्ण योगदान पुर्‍याएको विश्वास गरिएको छ।
